Capturing, Diagnosing, & Correcting Equipment Problems

Application 6: You are having problems with your card reader #1 intermittently going down and you want to confirm the number of instances so you can provide the information to technical support to help resolve the problem.

Solution: You can employ the Infinity Services Hold file feature to collect all Card Reader Terminal #1 went down messages in a 12-hour period and send the messages to you and technical support in a single summary Email. Or, you can use the Infinity Event Reporting feature to search through the events history database for all occurrences in a desired time period, and then copy the report into an Email.

Step-by-Step:

Hold File Alternative:

•  On the Infinity Site Status page, click Infinity Configuration .

•  On the Infinity Configuration Menu page, select the desired site in the Site: drop down box and click the Load button.

Create a New Hold File to Collect Your Card Reader Terminal #1 Went Down Messages

•  In the Common Configuration section, click Hold File Setup .

•  Create a new hold file to collect your Card Reader Terminal #1 went down messages by clicking Add .

•  In the Hold File box, enter a name for your hold file. For example, enter ICR-down .

•  In the Alert Group drop down box, select the alert group you wish to have notified. If you want to use a new Alert Group, you will need to create that first through the Alert Groups link in the Common Configuration section.

•  In the Send After (in minutes) box, enter 7200 (12 hours x 60 = 7200 minutes).

•  In the System Type drop down box, select your site controller model.

•  Complete your Hold File setup by clicking Save .

•  Click Return to Infinity Configuration Menu .

Create A New Event Type For Just Card Reader Terminal #1 Went Down Messages

•  In the Common Configuration section, click Event Groups .

•  Click on logfile to take you to the site controller logfile events since these messages appear in the log file.

•  At the bottom of the page, click on the Add button.

•  In the Event Type box, enter a name for your new event type for just the Card Reader Terminal #1 went down messages. For example, type ICR .

•  In the Event Description box, type Card Reader Terminal #1 went down to capture those messages.

•  Skip the Execute Command , Disable Until , and Disabled entries.

•  In the System Type drop down box, click on your site controller model.

•  Word Search is ok at the default no .

•  Click Save to complete your event type setup.

•  At the bottom of the page, click Return to Infinity Configuration Menu .

For Notification, Link Your New Event Type To Your New Hold File

•  In the iSite Configuration section, click Event Notification .

•  Go to the bottom of the screen and click the Add button.

•  In the Event Group box, select logfile .

•  In the Event Type box, enter the name of the event type you created; e.g., ICR.

•  In the Alert Group box, keep the default none selection, since you will be using the alert group in the Hold File.

•  Skip the Attached Cameras and Delay in Seconds entries.

•  Select the Hold File you created from the Hold File drop down box.

•  Skip the Error Status and Cleared By entries.

•  In the System Type drop down box, click on your site controller model.

•  Click Save to complete Event Notification.

Event Reporting Alternative:

•  On the Infinity Site Status page, click on Event Reporting . The iSite Event Reporting Module screen will appear.

•  From the Site: drop down box, select your site.

•  Select the desired event in the Specific Event: drop down box. You may use the scroll bar or type the first letter of the event into the box and then use the scroll bar. In this case, select Card Reader Terminal #1 went down .

•  In the Type of Report section, click the radio button next to the desired output format (e.g. html).

•  Type your desired start and end dates in the Date Range section. You must use two-digit day and month and 4-digit year formats. When you are finished, click the Process button.

•  Your report will appear on the screen. If you wish, you can use the Copy and Paste functions to paste the report directly into an Email.
